My Uncle David Porteur served with the 2nd
Raider Battalion on Bougainville. He was a strong and honorable man who
raised seven children and was well respected with in our community. He
passed away in late 1997, but he had time to write his own obituary. He
did not mention all the successes in business he had over the years but he
spoke about his service with the 2nd Marine Raiders. He was with a mortar
squad and was wounded on Bougainville.
I live in Hollister,CA where my Uncle also lived. I've
attached a photo taken in 1944 when he came back from the Pacific. He
married my Mother's sister Annie. He and my Father were best friends from
1937 until his death.
If anyone remembers him I would appreciate hearing from them
